Help
Got all confused? Let us try and help. Below are some questions that confused Generati have asked, and some that we have made up for kicks.
How do I go Generous? How do I take part?
-
Join
To join, simply logon to www.portsmouth.generous.org.uk and click on the ‘Join' tab at the top. Then, fill in your details (including your parish, please) on the right-hand side of the screen and let us know if you're happy to receive Generous emails (the adventure works best when you do – honest!). Click on the ‘Sign Up' button at the foot, and that's you – you're a Generous member. Welcome.

Take a look at the monthly action
Once you're logged in / signed up, the browser will return you to the ‘Portsmouth goes Generous' homepage. Click on the ‘Featured action for the month' there and read more about it. To commit to having a go at that action simply click the ‘Count me in' blackboard illustration to the right of the action and you will be registered as acting on it. Thank you.

What if you are already doing the monthly action?
If you are already doing the monthly action (well done you), please still sign up to it because we need to be able to measure the cumulative impact of each and every Generous action. But perhaps also recommend it to a friend and then move on to take a look at the other actions (see 3 below). Well done.

If you're up for more, take a peek at some of the other actions
If you are doing the monthly action already then you'll most likely be looking for more. (But remember, this is not a competition, but a means of you making a more conscious and corporate effort to gradually change the default settings of the way you live in favour of others and the planet.) The good news is that there are plenty of other actions for you to try. Just click on the ‘Actions' tab and take a look. Any action you commit to will register in your ‘Profile' (see 4 below). Go on.

Your Generous Profile
Any action you commit to will register on your Profile page. Click on the ‘Profile' tab to see the list of actions you are working on. You can also enter in some information about yourself there so that others can get a better sense of who they're on this journey with. It's easy to do. Just click on ‘You can update it here' next to the ‘This is your profile' at the head of your actions and then you'll have the usual sort of boxes to fill in – giving you the chance to change your password, write a few lines about yourself and even upload a photo. It brings the whole community to life when people share in this way. So let us know.

Encourage others – and your church – to join in and go Generous
This is the easy bit, but it's the bit that best helps Generous to grow and spread its good influence. So, please don't forget to tell others that you're going Generous and encourage them to go Generous too. And your church could become a Generous church! Go on, spread the word and let's shrink our footprint together. Don't keep Generous to yourself.
Why can't I log in?
There can be a few reasons for this. The most likely answer is that you've got your password wrong. You can reset your password if you like. It's no trouble, go head. No, after you.
If it's not that then you may be trying to log in using your account from the old Generous site from the pilot project. If this is the case, you will have already been sent an Invitation to Join email. If you can't find that, or it never made it to you, drop us a note and will send a new one. Don't feel bad, it's out fault for not really explaining it properly. We're wearing sackcloth right now in pennance.
I've already taken all these actions. What should I do now?
We set up Generous because we wanted to start doing things better, and many members of the community join up when they want ideas and a bit of support as they begin to make positive changes. This is why many of the actions are ‘starter' actions; they should be realistically achievable and accessible for as many busy people as possible.
Generous is built on the ideas and actions proposed by members of the Generous community. Everyone is at a different stage on their personal journey towards living a more generous life. If you have any ideas for issues or more ‘advanced' actions please feel free to suggest them.
And of course, we very much value comments and tips from our more experienced members. Post some comments and share your hard-won knowledge!
Are there more ways I can share my experiences of being Generous?
When you're doing Generous actions why not capture them on camera and upload the results to Flickr.com? That way we get a fuller sense of our community activity, at the same time as adding more visual interest to our homemade website!
In order for the Generous site to find your images and magically draw them in from Flickr, you'll need to 'tag' them a certain way. So, any photo you upload relevant to a particular Generous action will need to be tagged with "livinggenerously:action=X" where X is the ID number of the action. For example, for http://generous.org.uk/actions/friendly/44/give-something-away-and-declutter-your-life, the tag would be: livinggenerously:action=44
Go on! Show us just how Generous you are!
